Surface Designer & Illustrator

Visual Spatial Designer / Visitor Experience Designer / Illustrative Muralist / Scenic Artist Jiwon Oh Illustration

I am a - Scenic artist, muralist, illustrator, narrator and a visitor experience designer. I have spent 5 years as a professional spatial designer freelancing across London and outside of London, working on high clientele branding, interior and retail design projects. I am exploring interior architecture practice through multidisciplinary approaches, currently experimenting on how to involve stories in spatial design.

I have partnered with cultural organisations such as TATE, The Barbican Centre, V&A (with Discover Hannahs at Newton Abott), Hackney Wicked Festival and the Henley Royal Regatta to design and produce engaging visitor experiences. I have worked largely on commission for thriving high-end Mayfair Restaurants and cafes, as well as self initiated site-specific events for large corporations such as BMW. I have also worked with local government - Islington, Hackney, Henley-on-Thames Councils and the Croydon University Hospital, to activate spaces and promote social cohesion in public sectors.

I aim to bring a submerged experience to urban community (retail, events, hospitality, museums, exhibitions and institutions), and brand development by combining my interest in multimedia narrative design. My illustrative murals are extensions of the company/institution’s personalities.

I like to think big, my process is raw, organic and enthusiastic, but always keeps the place, the people and the occasion at the heart of the project. Whether inside a building or outside on the streets, my work provides exciting and playful experience for the audience, and encourages them to see a space in new and unexpected ways. Drawing and Illustration has always captivated the art industry because every artist has their own unique, individual style. I aimed to venture beyond the world of ‘illustration on paper’ and expanded the possibilities of narrating numerous stories onto different sets and walls.
